Tick Tock....

2008 is fast approaching and I'm still sitting here in my jammies watching cartoons in front of the fire with a sick little Leah. She had croup over the Christmas and now has a chest infection and is on more antibiotics. We're off to Mags and James's house tonight to ring in the New Year. Bubbly is chilling in the fridge as we speak. I wonder would it be bad manners to turn up in aforementioned jammies???? Oh well, I suppose I'd better get dressed then....
Happy New Year everyone and hope 2008 is good to you all! Sláinte!

An amalgamation of sorts....

...of two of my previous posts "Basic Car Maintenience" and "Stupidity"

After a 2 and a half hour drive from Athlone I have this advice for other drivers on these fine roads of ours....

1)I know this was covered in "Stupidity" but obviously not EVERYONE read that post. PLEASE don't overtake on a continous white line, around a bend, in the dark when it's pissing rain. It just doesn't make sense people. And it makes people watching you nervous. Even Jerry Tut Tuted. (He had turned off his Bat Wings because the rain was so bad) If Jerry Tut Tut's you, you have done something REALLY stupid.

2)You don't need your fog lights on in the rain. Even Connemara rain. You just annoy the people behind you. No end.

3)Dim your headlights when driving behind someone or get them adjusted so they don't blind the person in front of you. (This comes under Basic Car Maintenience-if people are flashing their fog lights at you all the time they might be trying to tell you something.....go to a garage and get them checked or drive behind a friend for a while)

I thought these were all "no brainers". Apparantly not. We had all 3 on our trip home tonight. Surely they weren't all pissed.....?????

It's all over for another year!

YES!! Survived another year. Neasa-31_Christmas-0
Santa came and left without being spotted, even after making a pig of himself in the sitting room. Man alive, not even did he eat the sweets left out for him he started in on a box of celebrations I was saving for any visitors, and left the wrappers all over the place. No harm, he did his job and left the goods. Thanks Santa. X
Went to my Mom's for dinner this year which was lovely. We haven't done that for a few years but with the Missus having croup, when she asked if we'd like to have dinner at home this year I jumped at the chance! And it was lovely, soo relaxed as my job was pouring wine and pulling crackers. Cathal fell asleep (up since 6.30 am-he must have just missed Santa, although he did hear some scraping on the roof which must have woken him up....) and Leah just posed for pictures and vegged on the couch watching Shreck the 3rd. Jerry nearly ran me over when we stopped to check on the neighbours dog and feed their fish but thankfully didn't so all in all a good Christmas day!
Woke up this morning with a rotten head cold, snotting all over the place but apart from doing a bread and milk run was pretty much able to stay put playing with all the new toys that arrived yesterday. Buckaroo, Pictionary, "Are you Smarter than a Ten Year old?" (no-but Cathal is!!) and Buzz thingy game. Chinese for dinner as we had no leftovers. Had no water today so we couldn't set up his SeaMarine Creatures set. Hey, it beats the hell out of having no electricity. Ohhh, woe is me, I can't wash the dishes....yeah, inside I'm crying!!!!
Hope you all had a great christmas and wishing you all a very happy new year. Bottoms up!

'Tis the friggin' season!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love christmas. I love everything about it. AFTER the 1st of December, anything before that is wasted on me. I have even avoided going into town since last halloween....
But I decided to get my ass in gear tonight and clean and tidy up so we could put up the tree. (Very late this year, I would normally have had it up last weekend) My sister took the two hooligans and Jerry was away working so I had the place to myself. Everything was going great, place was "presentably" tidy, had the tree ready for decorating, the wreath thingy on the mantlepiece all decorated and lit up. I plugged all (4) plugs of tree lights in, and lo and behold they all worked!!!! And so did the 2 outside ones! I started unravelling the tree lights and they just started rolling out on the floor!!! I thought the Gods were smiling down at me "You've had a rough year Neasa, we're going to take it easy on you this time"

Till the last bunch of lights......

The end was fine, the other end was fine, but there was a big knot in the middle. I was so calm because of all the other lights being easy I thought "This'll be a piece of cake" I even made a little joke to myself about the attic gremlins only finding one set this year.....
*Fast forward 2 hours* : "*sob* Fuck you, you Godamn fucking lights, I don't need you, I bought a new set, stupid friggin'....."

Yes, I lost the plot with a set of fairy lights. I very nearly stomped on them too. I don't actually know what stopped me because they are up on the tree now and I still want to rip them off and step on them....hmmm
Anyways Jerry came home and did his "jiggy jiggy" thing and they flowed to the floor like water. I left the house at that stage to buy drink for the night. For me.
So the house is lit up like a .....christmas tree!!! Lights outside, and flashing Snowman in the garden (just his hat lights flashing, there are children around!) It was all done before the kids came back. It was worth it to see their faces. We left the bobbles and decorations for them to put on and Cathal put the angel on the tree as usual. Leah had her Naoinra decorations to put on it. I think a tree decorated with a cardboard snowman with cotton wool and a star and tree made of biscuit recipe and hand painted by your kids is the best tree ever!
It was well worth the F'ing and blinding earlier!!!
Happy Holiday's Folks!!!!
Hope ye all have a good one!

Stolen joke!

Found this over on Julies blog and thought it was so funny. I know a few people in "Management" and thought this was spot on!!! Thanks Julie!

A man in a hot air balloon realised that he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend that I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”
The woman replied “You are in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude.”
“You must be a scientist” shouted the balloonist.
“I am” said the woman. “How did you know?”
“Well” answered the balloonist, “everything that you told me is presumably technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of the information, and the fact is, I am still lost. Frankly, you have not been much help.”
The woman responded “You must be in management.”
“I am” replied the balloonist, “but how did you know?”
“Well,” said the woman, “you don’t know where you are or where you are going. You have risen to where you are by means of a large volume of hot air. You have made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect people below you to solve the problems you have created. You are in exactly the same position you were in before we met but now, somehow, it is my fault!”

Back to school!

Kinda!!! (Is that a word?)
I'm doing an evening course in basic acountancy and business book keeping. I would of course have put it in CAPITAL LETTERS if it was run through the University College Of Galway, but it is not....it is a course run for people setting up their own business so they can keep a track of their books, learn how to do a tax thingy, the vat thingy, and know what thingys you need to be aware of and keep receipts for, thingys....
As you all know I don't have a business. My business is: wiping bums, noses, school runs, eat breakfast (a cup of tea) Leah to play school, feed and let out neighbours dog, start lunch, another school run, then pick up Leah, then another school run. Neighbours house for uniform change and let dog in.
Feed the minions, Homework, Playtime, Dinner, (considering I had to help with playtime today they were lucky to be fed! Thank God for pasta!)
After all that I got to play the student and I loved it! I've soooo longed to go back to school at some stage but something always seemed to get in the way. Oh, I should explain, sorry. Jerry set up a business a while back and has an accountant doing all his paperwork (as you do) but if I learn enough on this course I should be able to do a lot if not all of Jerry's vat and tax returns. Whoo hoo, not only does it save us money, but I'm doing something other than wiping up sick and cleaning dishes.
I nearly feel like a human being again.....

Uachtaráin na hÉireann

We had a visit today from no other but our Uactaráin na hÉireann, Máire Mhic Ghiolla Iosa (Puter will not let me do a capital I fada????)
There was such an air of festivities in the air. I was so glad I brought the kids down, if I hadn't I'd've missed these:
Kid: So, are we going to see the Queen then?
Mom: No, she's not the queen,
Kid: But is she like the Queen, like our Queen?
Mom: We don't have a Queen, she's our President.
Kid: So she doesn't have a tiara.....
Mom:SSSShhhhhhhhhhh

Child: Why are all the people standing here? Is it for the Prisoner?
Mum: She's not a prisioner, she's the President.
Child: Oh...

Child:Is there gonna be food here? The last time I saw this many people there was loads of food. Where's the food?

My last words outside the hall that she had just vacated (directly across from my friends pub) "I wish I brought my purse"!!!!

A great day was had by all, she came across as a lovely person, no airs or graces about her. I particularly liked how she started her speech. " Go dti mar ata, no no, nil sé sin ceart. Ceach chú bhuil sibh"!!!! To rounds of applause !(Spelling is not correct I'm using phonetic writing here!)
Wow, she is such an elegant lady, plus she's witty and seems to be a real "people person". She spent way more than her "alloted" time of 40 mins opening the new unit and in our local centre for handicapped and disabled children. Tigh Nan Dooley. When I figure out how to post a link I will!
All in all, a great day was had by all.
Go raibh mile maith agat a Uachtaráin,
Ó clann Úi hUallacháin.

Hope you see this, take care,

Basic Car Maintenance Lesson 1

If you can smell burning you are either in the wrong gear or something is, in fact, burning.

If you can hear a rattle coming from the underside of the car, it could in fact be a can of travelling sweets. Chect this out "before" bringing the car to a garage to avoid any unnecessary embarrasment.

Note to self....

Don't update blog with a few drinks on board....I couldn't find the pics of the kids in their costumes last night ("hmmmm, they were here a minute ago, hic") Here are the 2 in all their finery!!!

Halloween....oooh....aaahhhhhh

...not so.... but they tried!!
Had a great evening with the kids trick or treating, pity a lot of people didn't open their doors. All they wanted, was to be seen in their costumes (which cost a bloody fortune-you can ask my sis's.....Thanks Karen & Gráinne!) The kids didn't care what you gave them, they just wanted to be seen.... In future all you people who don't answer the door.....buy a bag of penny sweets in Aldi and don't be one of those "I'm not here-although you can see my beautiful chandlier sparkling from 5 miles away" people...OK???

Hi folks don't forget the ScrapWest cyber crop kicks off tomorrow at 8am. Hopefully I will have another few bits to post up during the week. Ooooh, the circus is coming to town tomorrow. I can't wait. Leah is so excited about seeing the unicorns???? God love her. Hope she's not too disappointed.....

Stupidity...

It never ceases to amaze me how we managed to climb to the top of the food chain. The stupidity on show somedays is just mindbogglingly frustrating. Like: people who overtake on a continous white line around a bend (I have seen this on numerous occasions and most recently yesterday-I was the car you were bearing down one Mr White Mazda, you know who you are) Or people who decide to overtake me when I'm turning right. Thankfully this has happened to me 'only' twice. Then there are the people who stand in the queue for 10 minutes and wait till their stuff is totted up to announce "Oh I just need some bread and milk, won't be a minute" You gotta be kidding me lady???.....
Todays example of this phenomemon goes like this. Quite a lot of families have moved into our area in Connemara over the last few years, with little or no Irish. They have tried their best with regard classes but an hour every month is not good enough. 2 of these ladies put themselves forward for the parent/teacher comittee. At the first meeting they were told not to say anything as the meeting was conducted through Irish. I'm not even going to get into how I felt about that. Anyways, it would seem that 'some' progress has been made....hmm... They recieved letters to ask them if they would be interested in Adult Irish classes and what level they would be interested in taking. Brilliant!!!! Only problem is, the letter arrived As Gaeilge....
I will be updating this list of Stupidity as I find examples. In the interest of fairness and unbiasness (is that a word? it is now) I will also be posting examples of when I myself have suffered the terrible affliction commonly known as "Baby Brain" or "Blond Moment" Like how half a tub of Vaseline 2 days before her christening, didn't, in fact, cure Leahs cradle cap. It just made her look like a greasy old man. I love you baby!!! The upside of that is I now know how to fix said Vaseline disaster! (Thank heavens for friends with kids...we should get together and write a book called "Damage Control"!)

Thats it from here folks. Thanks for listening to my ranting. Feel free to post any stupid actions you have seen in the comments box. I might even use them here to back up my point! Night night!

Uggggh... technology

I've just spent half hour trying to get into my own site! New passphrases, passwords, when was your Mom born...eeeck, it's getting a bit freaky now.
I can't even remember what I was going to say now, I'm so shocked that I was let on here. I'm nearly expecting a squad at the door anyminute now to search me and the house....

Got a "fright".......

The kids are all fed (as you all know by now I mind 2 kids after school) The kids are all playing inside and out (had an exceptionally fine day last Friday, by fine, yes I mean DRY) and we had 2 "incomers". Kids that aren't normally there. I didn't care, kids were playing, clothes were blowing in the breeze, and it's Friday!!!! I have a standing order in my "New Neighbours" house on Friday which, "ahem", usually, "ahem" requires a bottle of vino. (Hell, I'm minding her kids all week, and she has to put up with mine on the weekend, I think we deserve a glass or two!!!"
Anyways, while I'm sitting with an old neighbour (she's not old, she just moved away!) we hear a thud/bang/crash (take your pick) in the hallway. I had heard Leah come screaming up the hallway so I knew it was her. 'Cause the screaming stopped just after the bang we heard.
To make a long story short(ish), I went to survey the damge, thought "Oh no, somethings broken" (It's not like Leah to not get up after a fall) She was lying in a little heap in the hallway. I picked her up and she looked like she was crying, but I realised she had done the crying thing too hard, or winded herself.... Her mouth was wide open trying to cry or grab a breath but it wasn't happening. I at this stage cried for Jerry, who told me to "Relax, turn her over". I did and she started crying to my relief. "She's crying = she's breathing" Then I turn her back to me and ask her where's she's hurt. Before my eyes her eyes roll back in her head, her lips turn blue and she goes limp in my arms. I thought she was dead or dying in my arms....
To say I panicked would be an insult to people who just normally panic. I lost the block. I screamed for my next door neighbour sooooo loud and ran across to her, after leaving Leah to Jerry, that I had a sore throat that night. By the time I got to said neighbours house, the kids were running out saying that shes ok. Jerry hopped her on his good arm, she came to, not a bother on her. The above happened in about the space of 10 seconds.
I still feel a bit sick when I think of it. I also feel soooooooo bad for the kids who saw me lose it. (I apologised to all the Mommies involved, 3..)Free Smiley Face Courtesy of www.FreeSmileys.org
I'm the first one to say "Do a first Aid course", (had a nasty experience a few years back, I'll tell ya later Mags!) and I can't believe I kept putting it off. Not even putting it off just not checking up on it.
Anyways, will update tomorrow or during the week about our "visit of doom" to the vet..(which is a happy story!!)

Thursday, September 6, 2007

Finally figured it out...

.....and got myself a hit counter! Not that I'm expecting many hits but it's nice to know someone's checking in now and then...

Jerry and my big brother are in Barcelona for the Poker tourney (No, they're not playing) They felt it was their duty to support the Irish team ~insert rolling eyes here~! Well one of the guys on the team (of 4) is a local lad from here so we are very proud of him. I wonder if there is any crafting competion in Barbados that I would just HAVE to show my support at.....not likely ~more rolling eyes~ As of tonight Ireland are out of the competion. They had to finish in the top 4 for the final table and we came 5th. Story of our lives really....

Leah is loving the Naoinra. Cathal is unlearning a little bit more every day! And I'm (kinda) back working again. I'm minding 2 kids. School runs and after school. You know what? It really IS as easy to feed 4 as it is to feed 2. Who'da thought???!!! You just put a bit more on! I always thought that was a load of doo-dah. It's great to have something to do all day between drop offs and pick ups (all different times) instead of going round the house getting nothing done. Also we have a new routine now, lunch, homework, play, dinner and play (as opposed to lunch, play, play, dinner and homework)so to be honest it's working out really great. Mind you, they're great kids and practically mine anyways! I always thought people who had loads of kids were crazy but maybe not! Then again, I do get to hand them back!

Anyhew, thats it from here. This is a photo on the Poker thingy blog. Thats Jerry in the Yellow Rossi t-shirt at the back. Pity they called them the Iceland team.....all those pale legs in shorts and burnt faces I suppose....And our local lad Joe (who finished 2nd in his heat, the best of the lot, pros included) in the green t-shirt beside him. Gooooo Jooooooe! Well donehotels in norfolk

You did us proud, as we say 'round here!

First day of school

The Missus started Naoinra (pre-school in the Gealtacht) yesterday. She was horrified with her clothes "I'm not wearing this. Where's my nuniform?" (Not a typo!) We get there still full of the joys of "going to school like my brother" but it doesn't take long for reality to kick in. Momma's not staying. I have never in my life heard screams like it. They are very good in her Naoinra in that they discourage parents to hang around. It just prolongs the agony on both sides. I knew she'd be fine when I left, but still.....
Mags, (you all know her as the "new neighbour"!) came up with me and she drove me back to the vilage (in my car, I couldn't see, had something in my eye....) where we met another distraught Momma who left her screaming child in the same place (who only started crying when she heard mine crying....) We went for coffee where myself and other distraught Momma sat and watched our watches, the clock on the wall, our mobile phones....etc. My sis rang during this coffee and I checked with her that my watch was right. They are only in for an hour this week but yesterday morning was the longest of my life.
I was there promptly on time to pick her up and waited for her to come screaming out the door into my arms. No. I had to go in and prise her away from the table.
Today she was skipping in to meet her "team"? (I hope this isn't baby talk for "gang"...) when she turned and asked "Are you coming in Momma?" She was whisked away by one of the teachers to see the "babies". She never gives dolls names, they are all her "babies". Anyways, with a wink from the teacher and a swift retreat from me, today went well. So well in fact, that she didn't want to come home again today. I was the first Mom in line so her name was called first. We were the last to leave. Hmmmm.....not sure what to make of this. Will keep ye updated on any progress.

Cathal did "nothing" at school, as usual.....

Forgot to mention that she insisted on wearing her "Space Boots" instead of the lovely black patent Barbie shoes I bought her. I've decided to pick my battles! Space boots I can live with....

Altered notebooks

A few notebooks I altered for Cathals teacher at the end of the school year. I forgot to post them up at the time. (I think I lost the pictures in cyber space for a while....) Anyhoos, here they are...

Look what I found....

under Leahs pillow when making her bed this morning. What could you do but laugh? I know I'm (a bit) of a hoarder but I really hope this was her thinking of a midnight snack and not a case of monkey see, monkey do.....

Then off she toddles to the neighbours garden for a picnic with her friend Danni. They bring along with them a Dora mat, a tube of Pringles, assorted toys and puppy teddies, a punnet of strawberries a bucket and a stick (gotta have a stick at a picnic....) When I went to check on the other kids on the trampoline this is what I found on my neighbours doorstep

Again, I'm hoping this is not a forecast of their future parenting skills. Poor Salty is an 11 year old male dog but to give him his due, he took his new role as foster Mom very seriously! Another picture because I thought this was sooooo cute.

We are off to Westport tomorrow for a relaxing few days. Ha de ha ha. I haven't had a relaxing few minutes for 8 years. All the same it's nice to get out of the routine of home and stay in a nice clean place for a few days! We stay at the Harbours Mills beside Westport house every year. It's only an hour and a quarters drive from here but you feel like you are in another world. I just adore it there.

Thats all for now folks. Thanks for stopping by. x

Bad blogger.......

It's been ages since I blogged but as my camera is out of action and I'm taking pics on Jerry's camera, which he uploads, and I can't find my stuff, it seems kinda pointless. I started this blog to show my cards but it's turned into a diary for the lack of photos......
Yesterday was Cathals 8th birthday. He doesn't like the whole "party" thing with loads of people, he gets a bit overwhelmed (anyone with an ADHD child knows what I'm saying!) so for the last 3 years he's been allowed to pick a friend and do a "no holds barred" day in town. So this year we; booked and paid for tickets for Simpsons movie, moved quickly to Smyths to spend a voucher he got for his birthday, Maccy D's for a quick snack, into movie (which I recommend for anyone with kids over 7/8ish, I laughed more at them laughing! Although Leah didn't let the side down, she laughed when everyone else laughed and stayed the whole movie!!!!) then across the road for bowling, then the arcade, on the way home Leisureland (another €50!) and Morelli's pizza, chips, battered sausages and snackbox on the way home!
Yes, it would have been cheaper to throw a party, but he doesn't like them. This way, he's happy, and I'm happy that he's happy.
What a beautiful sunny day today in Conemmara. I was sitting outside with my neighbour at 3pm and we were admiring the sun and thirst qualities of it. We decided to have a few drinks at 7 before the sun went down. Talk about a snowball effect! We had a full house by the end of the night. There were fiddles and boudhráns and 2 little Irish dancers (well not really, we need to get them onto classes though!) going at one stage. It's the night's you don't plan that end up being the best. Thanks Mags and James! Great night was had by all! Will post some pics tomorrow.
So I think that's it really unless ye want to hear about how I still have to get the school books, uniforms, lunchboxes, etc etc.......no, didn't think so! Enjoy the weather while it lasts!
Will post pics soon!

What a great weekend...

Just had a fantastic weekend which I'm wrapping up tonight with a glass of vino or two as tomorrow is officially the first day of the Summer holidays!!!! No alarm clock tomorrow morning, bliss....

It was a neighbours birthday yesterday (yes, one of the "new neighbours"!!) so we decided to go out for a meal and a few quiet drinks on Friday night. One chinese meal, 2 pubs, a gatecrashed 21st, (everyone had left for the nightclub, we were doing them a favour!!) and loads of dancing later we traipsed home for more dancing! I haven't had a good night out like it for ages. Maybe thats because I don't go out to pubs anymore, just the odd dinner now and then. The company was great and the craic was mighty. It does the soul good to have a good laugh like that now and then (and boy did I have a laugh that night) Then yesterday they had a barbeque to celebrate the actual birthday so we had to do it all over again....only problem was, the brain was willing but the body was weak...: ( Oh well, I suppose the days of going on the lock for a weekend are well and truely over. (Sigh....)!

On the crafting front, it's been pretty quiet as I still haven't finished tidying and organising my stuff since the carnage Jerry created. I've made a few cards that were asked for and also 3 altered notebooks for Cathals teacher as a thank you present. It seemed like a great idea at the time and even though I was pleased with how they turned out (I'm not really one of those crafters who "plans" projects, I tend to start with one piece of paper and hope for the best!) I still felt it was a bit cheap or something and that I should have bought her something "shop bought" as well. She did come to me after school and thank me personally and she seems really happy with them. I wish I had more faith or confidence or something in my work. I'm always second guessing my work and fret that people won't like them, even when the same people have come back to me for more stuff.

Anyways, I'll try to upload the notebooks and also the card I made her. The card was made with the decoupage fairies from Yvonne Tune's "Card Art Originals" site. I love them because they are die cuts so you just pop the layers out of the page. No cutting! That is a godsend to me! A bit of glitter on the wings and they look beautiful.

Can't find them but here are the baby cards I was asked for. They were scanned so they didn't come out too well but they were fine IRL! Also a fairy from the decoupage sheet, unmounted or on a card yet!

Mish mash of a week....

It's been one of those "funny" old weeks where you're up and down like a yo-yo!! on Thursday I had Cathals appointment in town re. his ADHD assessment. (En route to app. I got a call to tell me a guy I went to school with died in a crash in America) There seems to be a lot of improvement and they think so too so fingers crossed xxx There will be another assessment in September to see how he settles in with the new teacher (God help her!!) His teacher this year was fantastic and she was saying by the end of the year that she thought he was great. I nearly started crying. If your kid has ADHD tendencies you'll know what I mean....

Friday was a bit of a non starter really but Saturday night all the neighbours gathered round in our back garden for our (neighbourly) annual bonfire (a slight change of venue this year by a few hundred yards but thats another story...) Good God, a night of singing, dancing and drinking like it hasn't been seen 'round these parts for a while I tell ya'!!! The new neighbours really got into the swing of things and even dragged out boudhráns, tin whistles and recorders well after midnight! I even sang Ámhrán na bhFiann to finish us off (hmmm, might have been on my 3rd bottle of Miller????!!)

Next morning I had to drag myself, kids and 2 sleepovers out of bed for the Salthill Airshow. Jerry reckoned he wasn't fit to drive anywhere after the night before. I don't think he should be allowed on the road without supervision at any time but thats beside the point! I gave the "new neighbours" a good lie in before I went ringing their doorbell with their kids in tow. (Have ye figured out yet that me and the "new neighbours" get on really well????) So off we all headed into Salthill. Kids are asleep by the time we get there (both cars) and we have to park a mile and a half from the prom. Did this fuzzy headed Mommy remember to throw the small buggy into the boot???? Answers on a postcard please... Anyways we eventually got there and in between the showers the sun was glorious. Got a pic of two kids dancing in a huge puddle while the sun was out and I think it's priceless! Got loads of pictures but then started getting really hungry. Now, I'm not a woman you want to let get very hungry. By the time we got to and got served in SuperMacs I was about to start shouting "Just get out of my f*"k(%g way people" (Well not about to, I'd just started saying it in my head!) Supermacs that day was a disgrace. The hall was flooded into the bathroom. The bathroom was flooded but instead of taking the tissue out of the sink they were trying to stem the flow in the hallway????? Not a scrap of toilet tissue to be found anywhere (thank God for my trustee Mommy bag!) Then I was waiting in line behind 3 people for 20 minutes. I noticed a young boy standing to the side looking eagerly in. When I finally came to the front I asked him if he was trying to order. Poor dote had been standing there since before I got there. I had to tell the guy who came to take my order that he'd been waiting to be served for ages. As I was doing this and old Biddy barged in beside me and started shouting out her order to the guy. And they say the youth of today have no manners???? If it wasn't for me that poor child and his little brother would still be waiting for curry chips, and that biddy is probably still munching away..... Now this post is running long enough as it is so I won't get into what I got when I ordered 4 kids meals, to consist of: 1 nuggets, 1 cheeseburger, 2 plain burgers. UUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

So you can imagine my house come Monday between the bonfire and not being here on Sunday (but Jerry and big brother (actual big brother, not the t.v version!) were here grilling all sorts and frying and making mess all day. Grass all over the floor, buscuits mashed into the carpet, curtains hanging off the railings (not to mention the kids rooms!!!!)

Then Tuesday (today) I got the call that my friend had been brought home and there was a wake tonight. Jesus, there's nothing like an Irish funeral I think. Although I was only there long enough to pay my respects I saw people from my year in school that I haven't seen since I walked away that last day. I found it very difficult, especially as I wouldn't even recogise him, I thought someone had made a horrible mistake, but then I saw his brother. I couldn't do the whole going into the other room and meeting the genuine friends and the ghouls who thrive on "I knew him, give me another drink, I can't cope" people. I was actually going to go the the burial tomorrow (which I don't normally do) which brings me onto the next stage of my topsy turvy week.

My Dad asked me during the week to make some cards. One specific baby boy card and 4 neutral baby cards. I have never made neutral baby cards in my life, they have always been for a boy or girl and usually with a name I can put on it somewhere. With the hectic weekend I was running a little behind but I knew I wasn't late yet . Then my Dad rang me tonight. I said "the cards are nearly done, they'll be on tomorrow's boat" (he lives in the Aran Islands) and he says " Well I can save you the trouble of putting them on the boat, can you pick me up and bring me to Casualty in the morning?" He's a stonemason and he got a slpinter of rock/stone in his eye. The doc's on the Island were able to give him painkillers but nothing else. Now I love it out there on the Islands for a visit but this is exactly why I wouldn't live there. Unless you are actually dying, or giving birth, they won't come out to get you (to my knowledge)

So I managed to finish the cards tonight, and I have a day full of Casualty to look forward to tomorrow but you know what? I couldn't give a shit. I'm glad actually. I'll spend some time with my Dad, have a chat, which is something we haven't done in a while.

Hmmm, It's saying my images have uploaded to blogger , first for a long time, but they dont seem to actually be there??? Yes it definately says "your images have uploaded to blogger"Oh, there it is up at the top!!! To shattered to now to do anything else. Will show pics of the fallen helicoper door tomorrow

Just chillin' !!

My camera has gone to join all the other broken, unwanted, unused and out of fashion cameras in the sky. I believe there is a place for us, cats and dogs so why not my beloved camera? The kids dropped it on it's head too many times at the beginning of its short life that apparantly there were long term after effects that just cannot be rectified.....a moment of silence please.

Thank you. Now. I'm friggin' raging. I haven't even finished paying for the damn thing and a few knocks on the head and it's gone????? Please.....You'd think they would make things a bit more robust these days considering where some of these products are going.
I am also raging because jerry has thrown out my 3v voucher with €15 left on it. He broke his computer yesterday and instead of being a man about it and go do his work elsewhere or drink a few beers he decides to "tidy his office"aka "Bull in Waterford Crystal Shop". His office is also my craft room so there is a little overlap re: papers and stuff. In the end I told him to get out and I'd do it. You wouldn't believe what he was putting in the bin......apparantly my 3v voucher went in before I stepped in to stop the carnage....
I am also missing 2 craftknives and 2 bonefolders and a sheet a peeloffs that I was assuming I would find in the pile he dumped on my table (which he moved.....ummmm)
I was chillin' when I wrote the title of this post but I finished my glass of wine now (2 glasses as I deleted the post by accident and had to write it all again) so I'm still going to bed annoyed. But just annoyed, not mad or angry which I hate 'cause I can't sleep then. My babies are safe and fast asleep like caterpillars in their beds. I am well and happy (but annoyed!!) and Jerry is fed and relaxing on the settee in front of a blazing fire......really, where else could I be.....chillin' out!??!!

Pics????

Oh my God, I don't believe it! It let me upload a picture! I love this one of the two terrors (and terrier!) They can fight like cats and dogs but they are as thick as thieves at the end of the day. I was lucky to get this picture they thought I'd stopped clicking! Myself and The Missus (forgot about that nickname in an earlier post...) came home from town today and you'd swear she hadn't seen him for months! It's the same every day we pick him up from school. Slobbering all over him (even I feel sorry for him sometimes). But 20 minutes later they're killing each other. It's natural I know and I try not to get too involved unless it gets rough. It's funny, if she learns something new, Cathal is the first one she wants to show. If Cathal teaches her something new, they want to show everyone, and if anyone else was to be a bit "untoward" to Leah, Cathal is fit to kill. I know it's the same still in my family. I can bitch about my sister but God help you if you try it!!!!

I'm going to try to print out this photo to scrap it. I'm thinking "Butterfly kisses". Saw that somewhere and thought it was lovely. Photo printer is still sulking after having the beaker of milk spilt into it though. Thank God my brother bought one too (and never uses it, imagine how much ink he has!!! I'm on my 2nd and have another filled) I'll try it tomorrow as I've left it to dry now for over a week but I think she's a gonner (maybe I shouldn't have used it just after the "incident"????)

Anyways it could be worse, I don't care 'cause the sun is back and my friend Jean is back! Yay! I've somone to chat to at 2am on the forum when I can't sleep! Speaking of which, I went to bed at 10 PM last night and the way our house is, the front catches all the sun from about 2pm onwards. I opened windows, slept under a sheet (for about 5 minutes) and the heat was killing me. It was like being on holidays again. We've been on 2 foreign holidays. Both in the height of summer and both times never checked was there air conditioning. No x 2. Many many fans bought and still sweltered. That's what you get for leaving things till the last minute Jerry....

We're not going on holidays this year. Mostly because the kids are so hyper it isn't a holiday and partley because Jerry has set up his own business. Fingers crossed this time in 5 years time we can affoard a holiday again and the kids will know how to behave themselves (so we can leave them at home with Mamó!!!!!)

Big Brother is watching.....

Or rather I'm watching Big Brother. Again. This year.....
But for a change I've decided not to pretend to myself and others that I only watch the highlights and the "good bits" or the after shows. No. This year I am camping out in the sitting room with plenty of fresh water, nibbles and a duvet for when the fire goes out. I am going to throw eviction parties (I have one recruit as of today, will let ye know how the numbers go as we progress) I am not going to deny that I love the freak show that is Big Brother. Phew, I feel kinda liberated!!!!
Well, they are all in and let the bitch fest begin! A house full of women???? The stuff of nightmares. The twins are annoying me already. Also the footballers wife wannabe. By tomorrow I will know all their names, background, medical history etc etc. I have spent the last few evenings watching "Big Brother love Stories" and "What they did next" programmes on E4. I feel kinda nostalgic looking at Kate, Nadia, Michelle, Nikki, Kemal and that Godawful Kitten.....ahhh will these new recruits live up??? Only time will tell. Should be fun when they horse some poor unsuspecting male of the species in there on Friday!

On other matters, I have been playing with my new toy a lot since I got it. Made a few cards and even a huge banner for my neighbours DD's communion. It came out pretty nice although the pics don't do it justice (thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!) I still don't know how to put the photos into the body of the text so they'll all either be under this line or at the top (in which case you've already seen them!)

Bloody technology...... tried 3 times to upload photos and still no go. How long does it usually take? Am I not supposed to do anything else while they are uploading (although, tried that and it didn't work) Ugggghhhhh.....
I'll try again later or tomorrow.
Slán go foill folks.

My quote of the week!

I'd seen this before, but came across it again tonight while blog surfing (on Petra's blog) and I think it just sums it up for me really!

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming Whoo what a ride".

You can replace the chocolate with a big slab of Port Salut cheese. Yeah, I'm done!
Had a good day today. After a hiccup after picking up Cathal from school (which I handled very calmly) we dropped off "Hurricane Leah" (Cathal's new name for her....) to Mamó's house and off we went to do our grocery shopping. I love spending time with Cathal on his own without Lulu screaming in the back seat (that's all the nicknames she has!!! I promise, although she is sometimes known as The Lulu! (But moreso The Hurricane...))
Whizzed through the shopping, quick stop in World of Wonder next door, Cathal got himself a baseball set (I'm all for sporty things, funny, I didn't have enough for a new ps2 game??....) and Leah got a new book (actually Momma got a new book, cause if I have to read Goldilocks and the 3 bears again in any shape or format I'm going to lose the will to live) Our house is overflowing with books for the kids and she picks the same story out of them all. I am glad that she loves books as much as I do but is 3 yrs too young to explain that she needs to broaden her horizons?? Myself and Cathal are working our way through the long version of Alladin at the mo. I say long version, because we have so many short versions of it in books that I'm assuming this one is the full version (Big book, nothing else but Alladin!)
I'm not sure if I should post this but I did ask and she didn't say not to but...........I have a Cricut on the way!!!!!!! Jean, a lovely woman I met online and then had the pleasure of meeting at Crafteire, had ordered a Cricut from the States. She then saw them in front of her at Crafteire and couldn't wait so she bought one. (Tut Tut, a bit of restraint woman!!!!!) I was lucky enough to meet her seconds after and told her I'd buy her "bargain" from US. She's soooooooo nice she's selling it to me at the price she got it for over there. Jean, you're a sweetheart, I love youuuuuuu!!!! Enjoy your holiers! (I think your the only one who reads my blog anyways!!!!)
Right all said and done, had a good day, off for a shower and into bed if I can fit, just checked on my way back from the bathroom and yes, they're ALL in my bed..... bit of shuffling to be done. Or maybe I'll just leave them there. They're like 3 little birds in a nest....
Oíche mhaith agus coladh sámh.

Oh what a week.....

Not really sure where to start or just post pics of things I made, and of course I forgot to take pics of the nice cards I made before shipping them off......

Saturday-communion party, walking outside to have a puff while talking over my shoulder, walked into their patio door (closed, obvoiusly) much to my disgrace.

Monday-realised I'd been driving around with an expired licence, took myself, €15 and 2 photos down to tax office. CLOSED FOR TODAY.

Tuesday-Jerry gone to town and forgot to change the baby seat over from his car to mine. "Click" from the backseat. I braked to get out and close her seatbelt and she came forward onto the cupholder in the middle of the car (I wasn't going fast and she wasn't in the middle?????) Result-3 yr old daughter with one black eye and marks on her other eye. Bad mother points for that one.

Today-one of those days where nothing goes right. Came home after dropping Cathal off to school. Cat in labour, brought her in, made her comfy. Kitten was stillborn.
Pissed rain all day, Leah like a bag of cats all day. Due at a meeting at 7.30, Jerry arrives home at 7.40. Leah wouldn't sleep tonight, then the icing on the cake, left alone in the bedroom for a few minutes she dumped her beaker of milk on top of my photo printer. "Sorry Momma"....

Waiting for my glass of wine to spontaniously combust........

Please bring Madeline home

I haven't posted in a few days as I couldn't really bring myself to do something so trivial when there is a little baby girl missing out there. It is really really affecting me. I have a baby girl the same age as Madeline and every time I look at her I pick her up and hug her and am so thankful it wasn't me. That little girl has not been out of my mind since this happened. I feel physically (spl??) sick every time I think of what could have and be happening to that poor doteín.
I'm not going to get into playing the blame game, but I cannot believe that 2 parents with I would assume reasonable intelliegence since they both went through med. school would leave 3 small children alone in an apartment in a foreign country. (And for the record, I don't care if they were 50 yards away, those kids were alone in an apartment) I have been on holiday with my children. They NEVER left my sight. If they were too tired and cranky to bring to a restaraunt we ate in. But to us, there was no other option. It didn't even cross our minds to get a resort babysitter, never mind leave them alone.
I'm not banging the parents, I'm sure they are doing that enough themselves, but I just can't believe they left them alone.
Maddy is in my thoughts and prayers tonight as I'm sure she is in yours. Please God, bring her home safe.
Sorry about that rant, it's been building up all weekend (I'm sure you all understand)
Well Jerry came home Saturday after working all week in Athlone so I didn't get a look in with Leah 'till I tried to leave the house! We went for dinner in Barna in the new hotel called "Twelve" (the old Twelve Pins) on Sunday and to be honest we won't be going back there. The service was great (parking is sh*te) the restaurant is fantastic (the food is la-de-da) Put it this way, I wouldn't bring my Dad for a slap up meal there (By that I mean he's a big man who likes his food........we nearly stopped at a chipper on the way home but it was closed.....)
To make up for it we went to Spiddal with the kids on Bank holiday Monday for dinner. Leah wouldn't sit still for a second, wouldn't eat her dinner and kept climbing over the table to get to Daddy. We didn't have dessert.
I have spent all weekend playing with Leah and Cathal even when I should be putting them to sleep. I spent hours colouring in pictures WITH Leah tonight instead of letting her get on with it while I'd try to tackle the housework. I spent time with Cathal asking about his day and what he'd like to do in the Summer holidays. I found myself looking at them in a whole new light. "You're not just mine, but anyone who takes a fancy to you"
Mothers, hold your children tight, smell them, touch them, cuddle them, whisper to them when they are asleep, take every opportunity you have to tell them you love them. Love them and never forget how lucky YOU are to have THEM in your life.
My prayers tonight are with Darragh (my friend) and with Madeline, and Madelines family, with the Portoguese Police. PLEASE BRING HER HOME.

It could only happen to me.....

Today I found out from the postman where the stray pup had come from so up we walked but no one was home. Later on I piled pup and kids into the car to complete my Good Samaritan Deed for the day and what do I do?????? I hit their other dog...... You couldn't make it up. The dog is fine, I think I just got his paw but he'll never chase my car again, thats for sure!!!! I still feel a bit sick.

Anyways, before my journey of doom I finished a l.o. I started last night with photos I took at the beach yesterday. Only one disaster later and I finished it this morning. It is loosely based on a sketch from Pencil Lines which I found on Kates blog. The fibres feel exactly like the mossy stuff that grows on the rocks in the 2nd pic. When I was glueing the paper strip with the fibres to the l.o. didn't the top come off the bottle and poured all over it. I don't know how it didn't ruin the whole thing (as I was working on top of the l.o. as usual....) but I managed to salvage it.

Here are some pics hopefully of the finished l.o. and pup in very good hands!!! Off to get a chinese now as I'm still too traumatised to cook!!!!!

Please upload!!!!!

Finally we seem to be getting somewhere. Blog is not playing nicely today.....

Advice taken!!!!

After everyone telling me to sod the housework, today I did just that!!! Packed up the car with towels, buckets, a few kids thrown in, some sandwiches and drinks and off we went to the beach. I'm soooo glad we did and I hardly thought about my dirty house at all! I even roped in a partner in crime (who maintained there was still egg on her walls when she heard the war cry and came running, hmmmmm??) so all the kids were happy killing each other, throwing sand, you know, kids stuff!!! Leah proclaimed not to like sand the minute we hit the beach but she soon got over that. The boys had a ball looking for mackeral and shrimp, and the little one even caught a shark in his bucket!
Leah stripped off completely after a while (very quiet beach so I let her off) and she was strutting around like she owned the place, hands on hips and shaking her finger when the boys peed up against the wall! Me and my friend were saying how wonderful it was that they are still too young to be conscious of their bodies. IYKWIM. Mind you Cathal kept shouting at her to "Put some knickers on"!!!!!
After we arrived home, showered and dressed again for more play, what do we find but the cutest little puppy wandering about on the road. I have been drafted in to make posters as we have a puter and they caught me taking photos of him....No owner found as of yet but he is definately a pet. He's tame and friendly, clean and well fed. No collar though (not that that means much round here!!)
On the crafting front I have an order for 5 personalised Communion cards, which is great. I don't really Take orders per se but friends know I make cards and sometimes they ask for something special which I'm delighted to do. I'm just so thrilled that someone would want them!! My partner in crime today is just back from the states and apart from the stuff I'd ordered she got me a pressie from herself. A lovely embellishment pack from Colorbok. It's so funny getting crafty presents from non-crafty friends. "Uhhhh, I'm not really sure what it is but it had ribbons/buttons/shiny bits, so I figured you'd like it"!!!!! I love it, thanks Eileen. It has 40 sheets of papers, 940 punch-outs, 3 3-D embellies, 6 buttons, 20 brads and 2 13"lenghts of ribbon. She got it in WalMart????? Said there was a full aisle of the stuff and that I would most likely die of hyperventilation.
Thats it from here. A few photies of our day and I'm off to play with my new bits!!!!
Hmmm, photos don't seem to be up loading.....I'll sign off and try again later.
Slán go foill folks!

One of those days!

I have been chasing my own ass all day trying to clean/tidy this house and it looks now exactly the same if not worse than this morning......so much for getting out and taking photos.

I'm not anal about the housework but when you've hoovered and mopped and then 6 kids come traipsing in with cut grass and mud on their shoes (does nobody wipe their feet anymore?) I get the clenched jaw feeling but I don't say anything. I love having kids in the house (I just silently wish they'd all leave their shoes outside!!!) My hoover blew up a few days ago, it didn't ACTUALLY blow up, but it was making a funny noise and I thought the filter had come loose so I opened it, pushed the filter down, and turned it on again. Funny noise and now a strange smell.....So I turned it off, opened it, turned it on. Filter wasn't moving. Turned it off, removed the filter and turned it on again............SPARKS coming from the side!!!!! I think I may have an unusual amount of static electricity in me as this is not the first appliance to do this to me....Hence my reluctance to let grass covered kids into my house today.

On the crafting front I have FINALLY finished my L.O. for a c.j. I'm doing (only 2 more sitting on the table) I get so overwhealmed by the talent in them I freeze when I go to touch them. I finished 2 b.day cards for people on cs forum (actually one has been sitting on the table for a week, just kept forgetting to bring it to the p.o) and finished a l.o. of Leah and her brand spanking new friend who's moved in beside us! I have only one more l.o. to do and I will have finished my first album!!!!

Still not sure how to post pics so hopefully below this will be Leah eating dinner "al fresco" ??? with me yesterday afternoon (except I took the pic so it's just her!!) and the boy's thinking they are in Brazil.

I am sooooooo loving this weather. I really believe I would be much better suited to a warmer climate. Sssshhhh, don't let Jerry hear me say that, he'd love to move to Spain but in all honesty I couldn't leave here yet. Not while the kids are in an Irish speaking national school. I know although being "fluent" (I use the term loosely!!!) I don't use it enough at home for them to fully learn it. Speaking of which, Noelle has launched her blog which I will list in my" blogs I like", check it out. She uses both English and Irish and I think it's fantastic. It's great to see the Irish being kept alive. Maith thú Noelle!!!!

Here's hoping the laundry, cleaning, cooking fairy, that everybody else in my house believes in, visit's tonight.
Ok, photos have up loaded but they are on top of the message. I will figure this out eventually. Tomorrow I am asking everyone I know who blogs how to do this.
Slán go foill a chairde, agus go raibh maith agat as buaileamh isteach!
Bye for now friends, and thanks for dropping in!

Finished L.O. (I think????)

I never know when a l.o. is finished and I think I stop before I put too much on. I tend to go for more of a simple, clean style than busy anyways. Patterned paper scares me! These papers are so lovely I really didn't want to put too much on them and take away from the fairies. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!
I'm still getting used to posting photos here so please bear with me! I'm after messing about with it now and I think I've managed to warp it somehow, it doesn't look right.....
Thanks for looking and thanks to everyone who has left comments. I'm like a child with a new (complicated) toy!!!

New neighbours!

I went to welcome our new neighbours properly last night with a bottle of wine and some chocolates. 3 bottles, 1 pizza and countless nibbles later I staggered home to bed! A good night was had by all and can't wait for the next night!! They have 2 kids the same ages as mine and it's lovely that Leah, my daughter has a little girl to play with now. Not to mention that she is another Dora fanatic!!
Brought my sister to town today. What a day for sitting in the car with no A/C :( God it was sweltering in town. Stocked up on all the new crafty mags so I've plenty to read tonight. I really wish I could produce stuff like that.

I'm in the middle of doing a L.O. of Leah using Once Upon A Time papers. They are just beautiful. I had a friend bring over some chipboart glitter letters to match from Michaels. Ummmmm!!!! I'll post up photos when I figure out how to!
Ok, it's a sneak preview of a corner. I cut around part of the fairy so she sits on top of the photo. Thats all from here folks, thanks for looking.

Testing, testing, 123!!!

Well, that was easier than I thought! Now I just have to figure out how to enter stuff on my brand new blog, Hmmmm. Note to self; do something interesting today to write about!
